Driver education is a 9 week course offered each quarter after school from 2:50-4:40. The course fee is $250 which covers fuel, insurance, maintenance of the vehicles, and instructors wages. There is also a $20 fee for the learners permit payable to the Illinois Secretary of State. In order for students to be eligible, they must be 15 years and 3 months old. Illinois code states that students must have passed at least 8 classes over the two previous semesters and have at least a C average. Illinois Administrative state code 252.20 mandates successful completion of 30 classroom hours, 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction, and 6 hours of behind the wheel observation. Students must pass each portion with a “C” or better.
